VIDEO PRODUCTION

SMALL TOWN

“Small Town” is a short video created for a production course in my Graduate Diploma program for Communication Studies. The assignment was for every classmate to submit a personal story that was “75% true”.

My classmate’s story “Small Town” was both funny and lighthearted as well as moving and kind of painful. Working with Bernard’s original pitch, I helped to write the script for a fairly involved video with a number of shots and even a full, live, choir which I was also working to organize. The week of pre-production our University shut down as well as much of North America in order to prevent the spread of Covid-19.

And so, the final result of “Small Town” is a testament to video production done without access to the equipment and facilities of a University, or even face to face interaction with team members. However, I feel as though changing the premise of the video speaks to the original story’s expression of struggling to find connection in less than ideal circumstances, and how we often find it in unlikely forms.

VIDEO PRODUCTION: Editing, Titles, Cinematography
DEVELOPMENT: Script writing, Altering original idea for a feasibility in a global pandemic, Sourcing found footage and music
PROJECT MANAGEMENT: Assembling a video for a given deadline, collaboration with team members to ensure project completion, flexibility to rework production schedules multiple times given sudden obstacles
